About the museum
The Archeoparco Bastia San Michele lies on Monte San Michele, at 336 metres above sea level, above the village of Cavaion Veronese. The park opened in May 2014 after excavations carried out by the archaeological heritage authority (Soprintendenza) of Veneto between 2003 and 2011, followed by consolidation and restoration of the walls until 2012 and preparation for visitors in 2012 and 2013.
The site preserves the remains of a place of worship dating from around the 11th century; some decorated limestone fragments from the 9th century suggest earlier use. The area also includes a fortified position of strategic importance for the region, and the park has been extended and modified several times.
The park is considered one of the most interesting archaeological sites in the Lake Garda area.
