About the museum
The Belìce/EpiCentro della Memoria Viva museum is housed in Gibellina, in the building of the CRESM, the Centre for Economic and Social Research for the South. It presents itself as an open space that is “always under construction”, collecting stories and experiences of the Belìce Valley and its popular movements.
The project is supported by the Fondazione con il Sud, the Comune di Gibellina and the Provincia di Trapani, and forms part of the Rete museale e naturale belicina. The route traces the years of the earthquake, the marches and the reconstruction through works by artists and photographers who documented the area, including Letizia Battaglia and the agenzia Publifoto, alongside contemporary readings by younger artists.
Alongside the galleries, the museum maintains a digital archive divided into three periods (1950–1967, 1968–1980, from 1980 to today) and offers school groups routes to the lesser-known places of memory in the valley. In 2026, the year of Gibellina Capitale dell’Arte Contemporanea, it also hosts exhibitions, residencies and community projects.
