About the museum
The museum is housed in the Norman Grifeo castle in Partanna, in a restored building. It mainly collects prehistoric material from contrada (locality) Stretto and from the territory of Partanna, an area where Neolithic tombs are found.
Among the best-known pieces is a trepanned skull from the Early Bronze Age, found in a tomb in contrada Stretto, on temporary loan from the Museo archeologico regionale “Salinas” in Palermo. The individual survived the procedure, which was probably carried out for therapeutic reasons. The museum also holds an archive of 14th-century parchments donated to the Comune by the Turrisi-Grifeo family.
Guided tours can be booked.
