About the museum
The Casa delle contadinerie, opened on 30 September 2012, is an ethnographic museum in the hamlet of Coenzo, in the municipality of Sorbolo Mezzani. It illustrates the daily life, customs and traditions of the people of the Bassa Parmense between the 19th and 20th centuries.
The core of the collection consists of clothing: underwear, light and heavy garments, the trousseau of the bride and the layette of the newborn, together with the tools used to make them, such as looms, spinning wheels, distaffs, spindles and the first sewing machines, dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
The purpose of the collection is to create a meeting place that makes known the work and ceremonial clothing of the people of the Bassa in the first decades of the last century, and helps visitors understand the lifestyle and the socio-economic context in which they were worn.
