About the museum
The museum collects finds made at Brescello from the late 19th century onwards and is housed in the San Benedetto cultural centre. The settlement was founded in the 4th century BC by the Cenomani Gauls and became an important Roman town, Brixellum, mainly thanks to its control of traffic along the Po between the 1st century BC and the 2nd century AD.
On the ground floor is a small necropolis of Brixellum with original stelae and a copy of the Monumento ai Concordi, together with a reconstruction of a Roman domus with mosaic floors. The first floor traces the history of archaeological research in Brescello, the Roman settlement of the area, land reclamation and drainage works, trade, the urban layout and everyday life, with panels and multimedia projections.
