About the museum
The museum is set up in the studio-house of the painter and ceramicist Manlio Trucco (Genoa 1884 – Albisola Superiore 1974), one of the protagonists of the artistic revival of Albisola in the 1920s and 1930s, and was created thanks to the master’s bequest. The route goes backwards in time and illustrates the history of Albisola ceramics from the 20th to the 15th century; it is preceded by a series of photographs of the Savona ceramics sites by Gianni Berengo Gardin.
In the 20th-century rooms are displayed Futurist pieces, works by Arturo Martini and Francesco Messina, a collection of period ceramics, furniture, paintings and ceramics by Trucco. Then come 19th-century dark terracotta cookware, popular yellow and black ceramics, 18th-century “taches noires” ceramics from the excavations of the Dominican convent of San Silvestro in Genoa, and important finds from the Fornace Giacchino. Also on show are the panel signed by Giovanni Giacomo Sciaccarama (1554) and the sets of pharmacy jars of the 17th and 18th centuries, lent by the Ospedale San Martino in Genoa. In the garden stand out the sculptures by Antonio Siri and the large “Battaglia” by Agenore Fabbri, a 1948 ceramic high relief.
