About the museum
The Fornace Alba Docilia is a ceramics manufactory that began operating at the start of the 17th century with the Conrado family, who also opened a factory in Nevers, France. In 1919 it took back the Roman name Alba Docilia and, under the artistic direction of Mario Gambetta, returned to the market with modern production. It closed for good in 1982, after almost four centuries of activity.
Today the building, in the historic centre of Albissola Marina, is one of the venues of the Museo Diffuso Albisola (MuDA) and houses a historical museum of ceramic art and technology. Visitors can see the original wood-fired kilns, the settling tanks for clay and glazes, the civic gallery of modern and contemporary ceramics and the permanent display of Albisola ceramic nativity scenes, known as macachi.
The venue also hosts temporary exhibitions, lectures, workshops and film screenings.
