About the museum
Casa Leopardi is the palazzo in Recanati where the poet Giacomo Leopardi was born, spent his youth and wrote many of his works. It is a historic residence with a long building history, now under architectural protection, which preserves rooms and furnishings of the family.
The guided route begins in the library, which holds over 20,000 volumes: here Giacomo studied and was educated under the guidance of his father Monaldo. It continues through the palazzo’s private halls and the garden that inspired the verses of “Le ricordanze”, with an account of the lives of the young Leopardi siblings and access to the poet’s apartments.
The visit concludes with the museum, a self-guided route in a large exhibition space that brings together objects, documents and writings belonging to Giacomo Leopardi and his family. The “Sala degli Antichi” has also recently been opened.
