About the museum
The museum is housed in the Sala dei Trenta of the Teatro Persiani in Recanati, on the third tier of boxes, and pays tribute to the great tenor from Recanati, Beniamino Gigli. The display was made possible by the donation of the artist’s heirs, in particular his daughter Rina, and was curated by the architect Ferrari Gabbris with the collaboration of the maestro Luigi Vincenzoni, the tenor’s nephew.
The route presents stage costumes, scores, photographs, letters and documents relating to a career lasting forty years, with a reconstruction of the singer’s dressing room and his make-up. Among the most significant mementos are a photograph with a dedication by Arturo Toscanini and the plaque of the “Beniamino Gigli Day” held in New York on 8 October 1997, at the Metropolitan.
The spaces also include a room converted into a small cinema, where films with Gigli are screened on restored period chairs; an international press review, the complete discography and the numerous awards received. The museum belongs to the circuit of the civic museums of Recanati and is in the same building as the Museo della Musica.
