About the museum
The Casa museo Puicher s'Kottlars is in the hamlet of Cretta, in Sappada. It is a simple house built as a single module, with an attached stable and hayloft, dating from the second quarter of the 19th century and still roofed with the original larch shingles. The Comune di Sappada bought it in 1990 and restored it using philological and conservation criteria.
The route runs through the traditional corridor and shows the kitchen with its open hearth and smoke chamber (affumicatoio), the living room (tinello) with its masonry stove, the bedrooms, a small room used as a workshop with wooden tools, the balcony (ballatoio) and the stable on the ground floor. In the kitchen garden next to the house grow the plants, cereals and medicinal herbs once cultivated in the valley.
The visit complements that of the Museo etnografico “Giuseppe Fontana” and shows how the life of a peasant family in Sappada was organised.
