About the museum
The Casa Museo Joe Petrosino is in Padula, in the house where Giuseppe “Joe” Petrosino was born on 30 August 1860. It is run by the Associazione internazionale Joe Petrosino ETS, which promotes the places linked to the police officer and the relations between Italian police forces and the New York Police Department.
Petrosino emigrated to New York with his parents at the age of thirteen and became one of the first Italians in the city's police force. He returned to Italy to investigate the links between the American and the Sicilian Mafia, and was murdered in Palermo on 12 March 1909. He is remembered as the first Italian-American police officer to fall in the line of duty against organised crime.
The house is described as the only house museum in Italy dedicated to a member of the police.
