About the museum
The Museo civico multimediale di Padula is a municipal institution in the historic centre, near the town hall, housed in Palazzo Brando. The display, conceived in 2014 on a design by Fabrizio Mangoni, presents an interactive route through the thousand-year history of Padula and the Vallo di Diano, from prehistory to the 19th century.
Through multimedia tools the museum guides visitors on a virtual exploration of the area up to Italian unification: archaeology, the Risorgimento, brigandage, the environment and local identities take shape room after room, in the voices and images of the protagonists who appear on the screens when the drawers and doors of “talking” cupboards are opened.
The last room on the upper floor, lined with mirrors, hosts an imaginary trial of Carlo Pisacane, the hero of the Sapri expedition of 1857: visitors take part as jurors and vote. The museum is part of the Padula museum system together with the Certosa di San Lorenzo, the Joe Petrosino house museum and the baptistery of San Giovanni in Fonte.
