About the museum
The house museum occupies the first floor of the birthplace of Renato Serra (Cesena 1884 – 1915), a literary critic who lived there until his death, in a building on Viale Carducci. The museum opened in 2008 on a project by the Comune di Cesena, with the support of the Banca di Cesena; the display was curated by Anna Maria Del Bianco and Stefano Lombardelli, with art-historical advice from Andrea Donati.
The route, covering about 155 square metres, preserves Serra's memorabilia and some original furnishings of the period, and conveys the artistic and cultural life of Cesena between the 19th and 20th centuries. Alongside the writer's objects are works by artists from Cesena, Romagna and Italy, including Anselmo Gianfanti, Vittorio Matteo Corcos, Paolo Grilli, Fortunato Teodorani, Gino Barbieri, Augusto Casalboni, Caterina Baratelli, Giannetto Malmerendi and Leonardo Castellani.
In February 2023 the house museum received the regional mark “Case e studi delle persone illustri dell'Emilia-Romagna” (Houses and studies of illustrious people of Emilia-Romagna) and is part of the circuit of house museums of poets and writers of Romagna.
