About the museum
The museum was founded in 1990 as the Istituto per la Conservazione e lo Studio dei Materiali Naturalistici della Romagna and has been open to the public since 2004. It is located within the Rocca di Cesena, the fifteenth-century complex that dominates the historic centre.
The route presents the main animal species of the Romagna area, especially of the Savio valley, in dioramas that recreate scenes of natural life and take visitors from the mountains down to the beach. Further rooms display exotic specimens and fossils, the Birds of Prey Tower devoted to the most representative diurnal raptors, and themed areas on climate change and the protection of the marine environment, with insights into sustainable fishing, the food chain and pollution.
From the Loggetta Veneziana and the Torre del Nuti there is a view over the rooftops of the historic centre and the Parco della Rimembranza. Outside, a small garden holds native plant species and a pond populated by animals and plants.
