About the museum
The Casa-museo Ribezzi-Petrosillo was inaugurated on 20 December 2003 in the historic centre of Latiano. The foundation that runs it was recognised by the Apulia Region by decree of 15 December 2003. Its aim is to promote the historical memory of the area, starting from the Ribezzi archaeological collection linked to the Messapian site of Muro Tenente, which for more than two centuries largely belonged to the Ribezzi family.
On the ground floor are the entrance, four rooms for temporary exhibitions and six rooms opened in 2005, with ceramics, a numismatic section entitled “Dalla Magna Grecia all’Euro” and a music room with instruments, perforated metal discs from the mid-19th century, scores and opera librettos. From the mezzanine one enters the Galleria Brancaccio, opened on 16 September 2022, which houses the collection of 16th- to 20th-century ceramics of the collector Giuseppe Brancaccio.
The upper floor, with five rooms, reconstructs in period settings the history of middle-class families of Latiano between the 17th and 20th centuries, through furniture, parchments, books, paintings, weapons, coins and documents, including mementos of Blessed Bartolo Longo.
