About the museum

The Cenacolo di Ognissanti is the former refectory of the Ognissanti convent in Florence. The hall, a typical single-nave refectory, is famous for the large Last Supper frescoed by Domenico Ghirlandaio, which fills the end wall.

The room also preserves the sinopia, the preparatory drawing for the fresco, displayed on the opposite wall, as well as the ancient washbasins and the portal, dated 1488, and an Annunciation from the early 15th century. The refectory is reached through the cloister, decorated with Stories of the Life of Saint Francis by Florentine painters from the 17th century onwards, including Jacopo Ligozzi and Giovanni da San Giovanni.

In the adjoining church are two other works by Ghirlandaio commissioned by the Vespucci family: a Saint Jerome and the early Madonna of Mercy with the Deposition of Christ. The museum is part of the Direzione regionale Musei nazionali della Toscana (Regional Directorate of the National Museums of Tuscany).
