About the museum
The Bellini family has lived and worked in Florence as art dealers since 1756 and holds one of the most important private art collections in Europe. The museum is housed in a palazzo on the Lungarno Soderini, in the Oltrarno, which belonged to the Soderini family. The building has 15th-century origins and was renovated at the beginning of the 20th century to a design by Gino Coppedè.
Since 2008 Luigi Bellini, with his wife Francesca and daughters Sveva and Violante, has opened the doors of the palazzo to visitors. The visit, accompanied by a guide, presents the works and their historical and artistic context, but also the history of the family and of art collecting from 1756 to today.
The collections range from the 12th to the 18th century and include gold-ground paintings, wooden sculptures, Renaissance bronzes, majolica, tapestries, textiles and Tuscan furniture. In the lower gallery of the palazzo, called Magazzino n. 5, the family also hosts events and exhibitions by contemporary artists.
