About the museum
CIDRA is a voluntary cultural association in Imola, founded in 1983, on the fortieth anniversary of the Resistance and in the year the city was awarded the Gold Medal of Military Valour. Since 1988 it has been affiliated with the Istituto nazionale per la storia del movimento di liberazione in Italia. Its creation is mainly due to Elio Gollini, who had already kept clandestine press and documents from the 1943-1945 period during the Resistance.
The centre promotes studies and research into the history from the Unification of Italy to the present day, collects and preserves materials, relics and documents, and organises lectures, seminars and book presentations, with particular attention to schools. Since 2014 it has been housed in the former Annunziata complex on Via Fratelli Bandiera. Inside are the permanent exhibition on the history of the Resistance and the 20th century, an archive and photo library, a library with periodicals, and a collection of audiovisual material.
The exhibition tells, through documents, photographs, objects and testimonies, the period from the early postwar years (after the First World War) to 1946: the rise of fascism, the war, deportation, the Resistance in the Imola area with the 36th Garibaldi Brigade “Bianconcini”, the Liberation and the birth of the Republic. The centre’s website also offers a digital version of the exhibition route.
