About the museum
Villa Bighi in Copparo was built in 1963 on family land to a design by the graphic designer and artist Dante Bighi, who made it the only work of architecture he ever designed. The house, with a double-L plan, is regarded as a significant example of modern architecture in the Ferrara area. Throughout the owner’s life it was also an exhibition space and a meeting place for artists and intellectuals.
In 1994 Bighi donated the villa to the municipality of Copparo, together with its furnishings, artworks, objects collected on his travels and a large library, asking that it be used to promote cultural growth. In 2008, after a public call for applications, management was entrusted to the social promotion association Centro Studi Dante Bighi, which reopened the villa, catalogued the collection and organised exhibitions, performances and educational activities.
In May 2026 the association announced that its activity would end when its agreement with the municipality expires in December 2026, and that the works kept in the villa would be secured. The house is surrounded by a park with sculptures that runs down to the Naviglio canal.
