About the museum
The Museo Centro Visite “Il Cervo” at Castelsantangelo sul Nera is a centre of the Monti Sibillini National Park dedicated to the fauna of the central Apennines, with the Ecomuseo del Cervo as its central theme. The building was seriously damaged by the 2016 earthquake and has been unusable since then.
In August 2024 the contract was signed for the demolition and reconstruction of the building, financed with public reconstruction funds and a contribution from the GSE, for a total of about €2 million. The new ecomuseum will include a nature trail dedicated to the most common animal species of the Apennine area, including those at risk of extinction, with explanations of their behaviour, their role in the ecosystem and their biology.
Once the works are completed, the ecomuseum, together with the Centro recupero animali selvatici (CRAS), will pass to the management and promotion of the Monti Sibillini National Park.
