About the museum
The Civica raccolta di Palazzo Fossa Mancini is located in Castelplanio, in the Marche, on the piano nobile of an 18th-century palace that belonged to the counts Fossa Mancini and today houses the town hall. The museum was opened in 2003 and brings together evidence of the art, history and culture of the town.
The route passes through rooms with decorated ceilings, stuccos and Baroque canvases, furnished with 18th-century furniture. On display are a Roman and a medieval inscription, a marble coat of arms of the family and a fresco of 1528 attributed to Andrea da Jesi. One section is devoted to the ancient local confraternities, with cult objects and an altar with furnishings in the Tridentine rite.
An important part is the collection of contemporary prints donated by Brenno Bucciarelli, with engravings and works by 20th-century masters, among them Virgilio Guidi and Luigi Bartolini. Since 2006 the mechanical adding machine Fossa Mancini has also been on display: a calculator invented and patented in 1897 by Carlo Fossa Mancini and donated by his heirs.
