About the museum
The collection was founded by Alfonso Tafuri in 1987 and is housed on the restored ground floor of the 18th-century Palazzo Mancuso, in Larghetto Cassavecchia, in the historic centre of Salerno near the cathedral. The rooms had previously been used as a coal store and a carpentry workshop.
The collection includes hand-painted tiles made in Naples in the 18th century and in Vietri in the 19th century, local ceramics and pieces from Vietri, works from Giffoni Valle Piana and Cerreto Sannita, and devotional plaques, with items dating back to the 13th century.
One section is devoted to Vietri ceramics of the early 20th century, with works by artists such as Riccardo Doelker, Irene Kowaliska, Guido Gambone and Giovannino Carraro.
