About the museum
The Forteleoni collection is located in Luras, in the house overlooking the granite stonework of Piazza del Rosario, and was the last home of the craftsman and artist Tonino Forteleoni (Luras 1915 – 1996). After the war Forteleoni developed mosaic and cork-covering techniques that made him known, introducing bas-relief and mosaic into the art of cork working.
He was mayor of Luras from 1961 to 1964 and worked with ISOLA, taking part in the biennials; in 1960 he received an award for innovations in cork working. From 1959, for seven years, he taught in the artistic-craft workshop of the cork section of the institute for industry and crafts in Calangianus.
The house displays religious icons, paintings, masks, plates, chairs, mirrors, bedspreads, headboards, wardrobes and tables, accompanied by explanatory panels, photographs and a large panel on traditional weaving. The regional portal describes it as perhaps the only and largest collection in the world made entirely of cork.
