About the museum
The museum is housed in a typical three-storey house overlooking the main street of Luras, and recreates the interiors of Gallura homes, showing rural and pastoral life from the late 17th century to the first half of the 20th century. The collection numbers over 4,000 objects. The owner and curator is Pier Giacomo Pala.
The suggested route begins on the ground floor, which has an audiovisual room, a wine room with a press and a still, and a courtyard with farm and pastoral tools. On the first floor a domestic setting is laid out, with a dining room, a kitchen with the bread table and a bedroom. On the second floor are machines for processing wool and flax, and a room dedicated to cork working, a typical activity of the area.
The best-known object is a wooden mallet, about 40 centimetres long, found in an abandoned stazzo (Gallura farmstead) near Luras and attributed to the accabadora (in Gallurese, agabbadora), the woman who, in Sardinian tradition, shortened the suffering of the dying.
