About the museum
The collection is housed on the second floor of the Palazzo Comunale in Spello, Piazza della Repubblica, in three rooms arranged in chronological order. It originates from a donation of works by Emilio Greco, the Sicilian sculptor who was made an honorary citizen of Spello in 1985, after a first exhibition devoted to him in the town in 1983.
The core includes around 38 works made from the mid-1960s to the late 1980s: prints, lithographs, etchings and drawings, alongside a selection of sculptures in bronze, plaster and resin. The recurring themes are the female figure and love.
The palace that houses the collection was built in 1270 and remodelled in the 16th century. It was the seat of the town government until 1972, when the municipality moved to Palazzo Urbani, and it was restored again after the 1997 earthquake. In one of the rooms, two recently rediscovered frescoes bearing the papal coats of arms of Clement VI and Innocent VI can also be seen.
