About the museum

The museum is housed in the Vecchio Municipio (old town hall) of Boves, in the historic centre, together with the Biblioteca civica (civic library) and the Scuola di Pace (peace school). In a small permanent display it presents the partisan resistance to the German and Fascist occupation between 1943 and 1945 in Boves and the surrounding area.

The display cases contain period clothing and uniforms, weapons, written documents and photographs. An important core is made up of over 150 drawings, pastels and oil paintings by Adriana Filippi, an artist, nurse and war correspondent, entitled “Impressioni – Momenti di vita partigiana” (Impressions – Moments of partisan life). The artist made them while observing and accompanying the local partisans from September 1943 to April 1945. The context is the massacre of Boves on 19 September 1943, in which much of the village was destroyed and 23 civilians were killed by German Waffen-SS troops.
