About the museum
The museum displays the so-called “Thalhof treasure”: Baroque and Rococo sacred objects found in the 1980s in the loft of the Thalhof farmstead. They come from the Madonna della Neve chapel in Thal, built in the 18th century by the barons von Ehrenfeld family, and had long been believed lost.
The collection includes sculptures, paintings, liturgical objects and goldsmith’s work; among the most notable pieces are a Baroque chalice made in Augsburg in 1750 and an ancient sundial ring, the so-called “farmer’s ring”, which was used as a portable sundial.
Since 2000 the museum has also shown paintings, coins and medals from private collections, work by Bolzano belt-makers and portraits of local figures, including Cardinal Johann Baptist Franzelin (1816–1886), the only cardinal from South Tyrol. The displays document life in Aldino over the centuries.
