About the museum
The museum is housed in a historic house under the arcades in the centre of Egna and is run by a volunteer association. Since 1995 it has presented popular culture and everyday life over recent centuries.
The collection is due mainly to the commitment of Anna Grandi Müller (1925–2022), who began collecting objects in the 1960s. The museum association continues to expand the holdings, which now comprise more than 3,000 pieces, including furniture, household utensils, toys and documents.
The display unfolds over four floors and recreates the rooms of a middle-class house of the 19th and 20th centuries, as if it were still lived in. Visitors encounter a grocer's shop at the entrance, the world of children and the reception room on the first floor, the bathroom, the smoke-blackened kitchen and the kitchen-living room on the second floor, and, in the attic, the room for sewing and ironing and the bedroom.
