About the museum
The Ecomuseo di Cascina Moglioni was established in 1996 by the Piedmont Region (D.C.R. no. 346 of 10 December 1996) and is located within the Parco naturale delle Capanne di Marcarolo, in Bosio. It is run by the Ente di gestione delle Aree protette dell’Appennino piemontese. It protects and promotes the historical memory and material culture of the Oltregiogo, an area that remained isolated from nearby urban centres for a long time.
The visitor centre occupies a restored traditional farmhouse of the Capanne di Marcarolo area. The visit begins in the stable, the hayloft, the tool shed and the wood-fired oven, and shows traditional building elements such as dry-stone walls and roofs of chestnut shingles or “pisanin”, flat terracotta tiles. In the land around the farmhouse you encounter centuries-old chestnut trees, mown meadows, the möia (the spring where clothes were washed), and chestnut groves and orchards restored to save the historic local varieties.
A multimedia route and short documentaries in the projection room tell of the traditions, lifestyle and economy of the Cabané, the ancient local community. The ecomuseum includes permanent collections of traditional objects, educational workshops, a fairy-tale library, a documentation centre and a “theatre in nature” with musical and theatrical events.
