About the museum
The museum occupies the former Crumière felt mill, a late 19th-century stone building of three floors, first used as a mill and then as a factory producing felts for a paper mill. In 1995 the collaboration between the Comune di Villar Pellice, the Comunità Montana Val Pellice and the Nuova Crumière cooperative made it possible to turn the historic part of the building into a museum of industrial archaeology for the Val Pellice, preventing its decay.
The Ecomuseo opened in its new phase on 14 July 2006 and is run by the Comune with a scientific committee and with the help of many volunteers. The restoration made it possible to recover the complete set of period textile machinery and the historic archive of the factory, which reconstruct the socio-economic life of the company.
The permanent route consists of the machinery of the felt production chain, huge and partly still working, alongside a neighbouring factory that continues to produce. In addition there are thematic displays, temporary exhibitions and workshops; the complex also includes two teaching rooms and a conference hall.
