About the museum
The FRaC Museum (Fondo regionale d’arte contemporanea, Regional Fund for Contemporary Art) opened on 29 September 2002 in Baronissi and has been recognised as a museum of regional interest by the Campania Region since a resolution of 2010. It is a non-profit institution of the Municipality of Baronissi which collects and documents research and experimentation in contemporary art in Campania and promotes knowledge of artistic developments in the second half of the twentieth century.
The museum is housed in the former Franciscan convent of SS. Trinità, in the hamlet of Sava, entered from a courtyard at street level. The holdings include paintings, sculptures, graphic works, photographs, digital and multimedia works. Among the collections is the permanent collection dedicated to drawing, made up of the Fondo Peter Ruta, twenty-two drawings by the German artist linked to his stay in Positano in the 1950s, and a group of new acquisitions donated by contemporary Italian artists.
Alongside its collections, the museum carries out documentation work and presents exhibitions, meetings, film, theatre, video art, design and debate on architecture, with the aim of being a cultural space open to the local area.
