About the museum
In the summer of 1953 the Sanna family, owners of a plot of land in the locality Sa Costa ’e Sa Binza, saw some pieces of worked stone emerge while terracing the ground for a vegetable garden. This was the beginning of the discovery of one of the most representative monuments of Nuragic Sardinia: a sacred spring dedicated to the cult of water.
The monument dates from between the 12th and 9th centuries BC and is built of perfectly squared stone blocks, with a double-pitched roof and small decorative arches inside. It is a refined expression of Nuragic religious architecture and is considered one of the best-preserved examples.
Since 1998 the site has been managed by the cooperative L.A.R.Co. (Lavori Archeologici, Restauri e Costruzioni), which organises the visits. To reach the spring, visitors walk a botanical trail of about 800 metres through the Mediterranean scrub, with panels on the flora and fauna of the area.
