About the museum
The Moncalvo civic museum, opened in May 2015, is housed in the rooms that once belonged to the Ursuline convent in Via Caccia. The core of the collection is the private collection of the diplomat and collector Franco Montanari from Moncalvo (died 1973), left to the town.
The picture gallery includes 20th-century paintings by artists such as Guttuso, de Chirico, Chagall, Afro and Maccari, as well as African art works and a collection of Japanese art with prints, 17th-century paintings and kakemono. Three still lifes by Orsola Maddalena Caccia, works with a strong religious character, are also on display.
The museum is managed under an agreement with the Comune by the association A.L.E.RA.MO Onlus, which every year stages several temporary exhibitions.
