About the museum
The Galleria civica of Seui occupies the historic town hall, built in 1887, a building with a granite rustication façade and arched windows completed by frames and corbels. Recent restorations have revealed the original decorations in the first two rooms, typical of late 19th-century taste.
The four exhibition rooms house about one hundred recent paintings and sculptures by Sardinian artists, many of them linked to the annual painting and sculpture competition held in the town. The route presents both classical and contemporary art and is complemented by an outdoor itinerary along the streets of the historic centre, where numerous modern sculptures are placed.
The most important pieces in the collection are in the council chamber: three 17th-century canvases, one attributed to Jusepe de Ribera, known as lo Spagnoletto. The gallery is part of the Percorso museale monumentale di Seui, which also includes other museums in the town; the ticket office for the route is at the Palazzina Liberty.
