About the museum
The gallery was established by a deed of 30 December 1974 by the Azienda Autonoma di Soggiorno e Turismo di Gradisca-Redipuglia, approved by the Region in 1975, and opened on 15 January 1977 in the 17th-century Palazzo Torriani, seat of the town hall of Gradisca d’Isonzo. Its main purpose is to promote the work of Luigi Spazzapan (Gradisca d’Isonzo 1889 – Turin 1958); an exhibition in 1970 based on the collection of Eugenio Giletti, a friend of the painter, helped lead to the creation of a permanent venue.
It is now managed by ERPAC FVG, the Regional Agency for Cultural Heritage of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in collaboration with the municipality and the Fondazione Carigo. The most important holding consists of 87 works donated by Giletti, displayed on a rotating basis on the first floor: they cover the artist’s career from the late 1930s to 1958. The second floor hosts temporary exhibitions.
