About the museum

The Lanserhaus is in the centre of San Michele, a few steps from the town hall of Appiano sulla Strada del Vino. The main building dates from the early 17th century and was bought by the municipality in 1990; after restoration it opened in 2005 as a cultural centre. A programme of art exhibitions and events is held in the historic rooms on the upper floors.

The former rural farmhouse, now called the Raiffeisen-Forum, has two halls with modern equipment and a Steinway grand piano, used for concerts, conferences and food events. The permanent archaeological exhibition “Geborgene Schätze” (“Recovered Treasures”) is set up in the vaulted hall and covers about ten thousand years of the history of the Appiano area, from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. Among the finds are Neolithic arrowheads and crossbow bolts from the age of chivalry, on loan from the Museo civico di Bolzano (Bolzano Civic Museum) and the Provincial Office for Archaeological Heritage.
