About the museum
The MATer, Museo dell’Archeologia e del Territorio, is part of the Mamoiada museum system together with the Museo delle Maschere Mediterranee and the Museo della Cultura e del Lavoro. It is housed in the manor house of one of the town’s aristocratic families, in Via Manno.
The display, designed by Studio Azzurro, uses multimedia technologies to present the most significant sites of the area: menhirs, necropolises, nuraghi and villages. The interactive route, spread over three thematic rooms, ends in the Sala della Narrazione (Narration Room), where direct testimonies from men and women of the town tell of the pride of a community that has historically resisted outside influences.
The visit shows how the archaeological heritage of the area is a living part of local memory. The museum is currently listed as temporarily closed for redisplay.
