About the museum
The complex of Sa Sedda ’e sos Carros, whose name in Sardinian means “the crossing point of the carts”, stands in the Lanaittu valley, in the territory of Oliena. It dates from the late Bronze Age and the early Iron Age, between the 12th and 9th centuries BC.
The village includes numerous circular and oval huts, among them a building of unusual architecture with a probable ritual and religious function. Among the best-known structures is a circular building with a basin, one of the best-preserved examples of Nuragic civilisation: water came through a channel and gushed from sandstone protomes in the shape of rams into the central basin.
During the excavations, slag from the smelting of metals, including iron, was found, which bears witness to significant metallurgical activity.
