About the museum
The Museo della Cultura e del Lavoro is one of three venues of the Mamoiada museum system, together with the Museo delle Maschere Mediterranee and the MATer, and is located in Via Sardegna. It is dedicated to the traditions and costumes of the Barbagia village.
The display presents above all the traditional dress of the Mamoiada community: styles, fabrics, accessories, decorations and colours help explain the social organisation, the hierarchies between classes and the roles of men and women in an agro-pastoral setting. Jewellery and tools are also documented, along with the stages of the life cycle, such as weddings, births, bereavements and work.
The route begins in a room dedicated to local work activities and continues into thematic rooms on life in the village up to the mid-20th century. Stories and video projections illustrate agricultural and food production techniques still in use and linked to Mamoiada's tradition. The museum is currently listed as temporarily closed for re-display.
