About the museum
The Memoriale Giuseppe Garibaldi is housed in the restored rooms of Forte Arbuticci, on the island of Caprera, about four kilometres from the house museum of the Compendio Garibaldino. It is run by the Direzione regionale Musei nazionali della Sardegna of the Ministero della Cultura.
The exhibition is organised across four buildings and follows a chronological route: from Garibaldi’s youth as a sailor from Nice, drawn to the ideas of Mazzini, to the last years spent on Caprera. Illustrated graphics, multimedia rooms, sound and visual atmospheres and a selection of objects and documents make it possible to follow his personal, political and military story.
Outside, from the ramparts, there is a view over the archipelago and the coasts of Corsica. Between one exhibition building and the next is Piazza Italia, a work midway between sculpture and mosaic, which also serves as a place to rest.
