About the museum
The Erdemolo mine, called “Gruab va Hardimbl” in the Mòcheni language, lies at about 1,700 metres above sea level, along the path that climbs towards Lake Erdemolo, several kilometres from the centre of Palù del Fersina. It was worked for centuries: local sources indicate activity from the 15th–16th century, with miners arriving from Bohemia and Tyrol, until a period between the 17th and 19th centuries.
The tunnel system has been very well preserved. During the guided tour you walk through tunnels, passages and staircases cut into the mountain, can see and touch the ore veins, and find on display working tools, miners' clothing and extracted minerals. The story concerns the hard, dark life of the miners and their bond with the land.
Visits are only possible with a guide, in small groups of no more than twelve people. The ticket also includes entry to the nearby S'PèrgMandlHaus museum in Palù del Fersina, which presents the mining history of the valley over two floors.
