About the museum
The Museo degli Strumenti Musicali Popolari in Roncegno Terme, in the locality of S. Brigida, holds over one thousand instruments from around the world, the fruit of donations from private collectors, associations and families. The museum presents itself as a journey through music, art, history, geography and the cultures of peoples, and describes itself as “a museum to see and to play”: visitors, especially children and young people, can try some of the instruments.
Alongside the exhibition is the Parco Musicale, an outdoor route through five green areas dedicated to the sounds of nature: the orchard with wind-driven “scacciaspiriti” (spirit scarers), the musical garden with benches shaped like pianos and a water drum, the flower garden with over 70 plant species, the herb area with a marimba, and the rose garden. The museum is linked to the activities of the Accademia and the Coro S. Osvaldo, and runs educational workshops on making small instruments, musical games and animated readings.
In winter and early spring parts of the premises are under renovation and the instruments are being restored, so visits should be arranged in advance.
