About the museum
Minturnae was founded in 296 BC as a maritime colony on the river Liri, today’s Garigliano. It was rebuilt in the Augustan age and reached its greatest extent under Hadrian, when it acquired markets, baths, houses and an aqueduct. The layout of the city visible today reflects that Hadrianic phase.
The Antiquarium is housed in the arcades of the theatre and holds significant finds, including a gallery of statues and a lapidarium with architectural decorations. The archaeological route is part of the Parco di Minturnae e Ponte Real Ferdinando, managed by the Direzione regionale Musei nazionali Lazio.
