About the museum
The Museo agricolo was opened in 1983 by a local association of collectors and enthusiasts of rural life, with the support of the Comune di Albairate. Since 2003 it has borne the name of Angelo Masperi, a former mayor of the village, who died in August of that year.
It is housed in Corte Salcano, in the centre of the village, in a wing that once housed a dairy. The museum has educational aims and tells of the customs of rural life in the Magentino area through a large collection of original objects and tools for work in the fields.
In the courtyard stands an 18th-century ice house shaped like a cone, which farmers filled with ice from nearby springs or ponds to preserve food in summer. It has an internal staircase leading to an adjoining cellar and is one of the few structures of that period to have survived almost intact to the present day.
