About the museum
The museum was founded in 2004 on the initiative of the Carcare Alpini group, which still runs it today. The network of the Musei della Valle Bormida presents it as the only museum dedicated to the Alpini in Liguria.
The collection includes military objects, books, photographs and personal effects of the Alpini who fought in the two world wars, among them letters and postcards from the front, helmets, uniforms and cartridge cases. The heritage grows thanks to donations from Alpini and families from all over Italy. In 2013 a new section was added, with a library of texts on Alpine history and culture.
The museum is very popular with schools and aims to pass on to young people the memory of an important chapter of national history. The explanations are given by the Alpini themselves.
