About the museum
The Museo anatomico “Eugenio Morelli” was founded in 1941 by Eugenio Morelli, a pupil of Carlo Forlanini, with the technical help of Mr Grutzner. It is located in the San Camillo-Forlanini hospital complex, in Piazza Carlo Forlanini, and has followed the history of the hospital over time. Its management is now entrusted to MUSIS.
The rooms cover about 1,200 square metres and hold tuberculosis specimens and specimens of other diseases that are no longer obtainable, of great historical, educational and scientific value. The normal anatomy room includes pieces that belonged to Carlo Forlanini, an embryology collection, comparative anatomy charts, 21 specimens showing development from egg to chick and about 900 anatomical preparations, with sections on the respiratory system, the central and peripheral nervous system and topographical anatomy.
The pathological anatomy section, made up mainly of autopsy specimens and surgical pieces, forms the original core of the museum. The route is completed by the radiological anatomy section, devoted to pulmonary tuberculosis, and the surgical anatomy section named after Niccolino Belli, with charts of respiratory surgical pathology. The room has 50 seats for conferences and seminars.
