About the museum
The civic archaeological museum of Atri occupies an 18th-century complex formed by the De Galitiis, De Albentiis and Tascini palaces, in Via dei Musei. It holds finds from excavations in the Atri area, in particular those directed by Edoardo Brizio at the end of the 19th century.
The route is divided into three rooms. The first houses the collection of the engineer and archaeologist Vincenzo Rosati, with weapons, jewellery, containers and architectural decorative elements from the Italic temple of Colle San Giorgio. The second presents reconstructions of prehistoric tools from Abruzzo, from the Palaeolithic to the early Iron Age, with implements, impasto vessels and ceramic fragments from the settlement of Colle Maralto, dating to the Final Bronze Age.
The third room is dedicated to the grave goods of 22 burials belonging to two or three family groups, found in the necropolises of Colle della Giustizia and Pretara: the male tombs contain warrior weapons, the female tombs containers, fibulae and ornaments in glass paste, bronze and shells.
