About the museum

The Museo archeologico comprensoriale gathers the archaeological and historical evidence of the Mugello, the Upper Mugello and the Val di Sieve. It has been open since 2008 on the ground floor of the Dicomano town hall and is part of the Museum System of Mugello and the Florentine Mountains.

The collections include finds from excavations at the Etruscan sites of San Martino a Frascole, in the municipality of Dicomano, Poggio Colla in Vicchio and “I Monti” in San Piero a Sieve. Added to these are prehistoric finds from Palazzuolo sul Senio, from Barberino di Mugello (the Bilancino area) and from Dicomano, as well as medieval and Renaissance material from Borgo San Lorenzo and Cafaggiolo.

The route offers two ways of reading it, one chronological-topographical and one educational-thematic, accompanied by stylised illustrations. Thematic panels “bring the Etruscan language back to life” and help young visitors place historical periods in time. Since 31 March 2026 the museum has been closed for the renovation of the town hall, with no reopening date given.
