Museo archeologico del territorio di Suasa

Opening hoursAdmission €3

About the museum

The museum is housed in San Lorenzo in Campo, in the Marche, in the 16th-century Palazzo della Rovere. It was established in 1983 to preserve and display the finds from the area. Together with the civic museum of Castelleone di Suasa and the archaeological park, it forms part of the network of museums of the Suasan lands, run by the Consorzio Città Romana di Suasa.

The route, spread over two floors, follows the evolution of the environment and of human settlement in the Cesano valley. It begins with the geological history and the fossils of Pleistocene fauna and flora, moves on to the traces of the Stone and Metal Ages, and reaches the Roman colonisation of the ager Gallicus up to the threshold of the Middle Ages. The narrative is accompanied by graphic reconstructions of the landscape and by an educational route on two levels, one for adults and one for young people.

Among the Roman materials on display from the territory of ancient Suasa are a boundary cippus, tombs, amphorae, bricks and tiles, architectural elements, coins and tableware, as well as a section devoted to minerals and fossil trunks from Monte Catria.
