About the museum
The museum is housed in the San Francesco monumental complex, a 13th-century convent extensively remodelled in the 16th century, in the historic centre of Eboli, a short distance from the Paestum archaeological park. It opened to the public in 2000 and since 2014 has been run by the Ministry of Culture through the network of regional museums, and from 2019 by the Regional Directorate of Museums.
The route follows a chronological order from the late Neolithic to the Middle Ages and presents materials from Eboli and nearby centres such as Serre, Campagna, Oliveto Citra, Olevano sul Tusciano, Postiglione and Altavilla Silentina: Eneolithic tombs, Bronze Age materials, rich Iron Age grave goods and medieval finds. A section is devoted to the Lucanians in their relations with Greeks and Romans, with multimedia tools and educational reconstructions.
